Izmir, formerly called Smyrna, is the third largest city in Turkey with around 5 million inhabitants and the capital of the province of the same name. Located on the Aegean coast on the Gulf of Izmir, it is home to the country's second largest port after Istanbul. The first settlements in what is now Izmir date back to around 6500–4000 BC. Christ, Izmir is one of the oldest cities in the entire Mediterranean.
The city of Izmir presents itself today more than ever as a cosmopolitan and multicultural center and has enjoyed enormous growth in recent years due to its special lifestyle. The Izmir region, with its western extension towards Cesme, is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Mediterranean and offers countless beaches and bays that invite you to spend a weekend or a longer vacation.
The region is growing steadily economically; industry, trade and agriculture are among the main focuses alongside tourism. Due to its high popularity, especially among higher educated and income groups, real estate enjoys a high and secure increase in value, there is a certain understatement to be enjoyed, and mass tourism like in the south of Turkey is not found in this region.

Likewise, new and partly luxurious villa parks are also being built directly by the sea - where land is still available - although prices here already significantly exceed European standards, especially with a sea view.
On the other hand, due to the special climate, you can experience a unique attitude to life here, significantly more security than in most European cities and of course overall lower costs of living. And once you visit the region and experience this interplay of culture and modernity yourself, you quickly understand why more and more Europeans are deciding to purchase a second property in the Izmir region.
